Sr. Java Perl Software Engineer

Position Description
Position is located at our North Druid Hills office, right off I-85.
Responsible for the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of local, network or internet-related computer programs for commercial or end user applications such as materials management, financial management, HRIS or desktop applications products. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications using current programming language and technologies. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. May interface with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.
Minimum Requirements
6+ years experience in software engineering
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Basic qualifications include:
- Six (6) or more years of commercial software development, proficient in developing multi-tier solutions.
- Minimum 4 years of professional Java and/or Perl development experience.
- MUST possess a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Strong SQL skills with considerable experience in at least one of: Oracle or SQL Server.
- Experience with installing, configuring, and tuning Tomcat, Glassfish, JBoss, Weblogic or Websphere
- Strong with OO design and development.
- Strong algorithm design and data structures, good math background.
- Self starter with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in small teams, handles multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt quickly to changes.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written), good interpersonal skills, and ability to gather and understand requirements.
- Ability to install, administer Linux packages, including from source. Extensive experience in command line Unix/Linux environments
- Experience writing code in a high volume Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)
- Must have played a leading role in the design, implementation, and deployment of a successful enterprise-level system
- Ensure the integrity of all application systems and support operations as needed.
- Analyze and resolve tickets that are opened by business users.
- Will perform design and code reviews to notify and correct any issues where possible across organizations prior to implementation.
Candidate should have experience/familiarity with:
- Linux or equivalent UNIX system
- Oracle 10g or later
- Proficient in the following development languages: Perl, Java, PL/SQL, KSH.
- XML, XSLT, OO Perl, IPC, threads based Perl applications, managing shared memory, making remote connections, ETL, extensive database and data manipulation experience, regular expressions, Oracle, SMTP, SOAP, and web services.
- Ability to setup and assist in the management of Jenkins/Hudson build systems.
Additional Knowledge and skills preferred:
- Good understanding of Logical/Physical data modeling and dimensional modeling
- Strong working knowledge of performance analysis including system resource management including tracing, OS tuning, file system management, SAN & NAS architectures, etc.
- Knowledge of C development language or extending Perl modules using C a plus.
- Experience in security methodologies for HIPAA, PCI DSS, or other private data protection a plus.
- Experience with a significant business intelligence project including data marts & ETL.
- Self starter with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective verbal/written communication skills
- Knowledge and experience with J2EE, JavaScript, CSS, Design Patterns a plus
Education
4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
